What Is IPTV? How It Works and What You Need

IPTV explained in plain words: how channels reach your TV over the internet, and the three things you need to start.

IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television. Instead of arriving through a satellite dish, an aerial or a cable box, TV channels and films reach you through your normal internet connection.

How it works

An IPTV provider streams channels from its servers. On your side, a player app on your TV, stick, phone or computer connects to those servers with your login and shows the channels, the TV guide and the on-demand library, just like regular TV.

What you need

  • A device: Smart TV, Firestick, Android box, Apple TV, phone, MAG box or computer.
  • An internet connection: about 10 Mbps per screen for HD, 25 Mbps for 4K.
  • A player app and a subscription login.

Why people switch
